Norfolk Military Museums

Norfolk was a county heavily involved in WWII thanks to it's strategic position on the English south east coast line. Many military bases were set up here to help the efforts of Great Britain and the United States in fighting the Germans. Both the American Airforce and Royal Airforce were stationed here occupying many airfields.

If your visiting Norfolk and have an interest in military history, the country is packed with ten interesting museums to visit dedicated to WWII, aircraft and tanks operated by passionate volunteers. Thanks to mynorfolk.co.uk we can provide this guide for you below.

The 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum

The 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum

A unique museum dedicated to American service men who were based at this station during WWII. The volunteer staff are highly knowledgeable and can give you a personal insight into the efforts made by the men who served at this base. Unlike many large museums that always have the achilles heal of being too broad in scope to really capture the individual stories of WWII if you have a rather more curious interest in WWII from the ground up, you will find stories here that will be told in fascinating depth you can't hear elsewhere about the 100th Bomb Group. Visit the Museum here 100bgmus.org.uk to find out more.

City of Norwich Aviation Museum

City of Norwich Aviation Museum

This museum was founded by private aviation enthusiasts back in 1977. It has since come along to become an official museum open to the public housing some very unique and old aircraft on full show at the airfield in Norfolk. If you are a big aircraft fan then you will be able to admire planes such as the BAC Lightning F.53, the Hawker Hunter F.51 and the Lockheed T-33A Shooting Star. It has plenty of fighter aircraft to view and cockpit sections of planes such as the Blackburn Buccaneer S.1 and the McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.2.
